iZombie is a funny, smart and altogether different take on the zombie genre. Yes, some of the tropes such as eating brains exist in the world of Liv Moore and her Zombie/Zombie Loving amigos, but the decaying, brain obsessed, ever hungry tropes that we expect have been tamed or made irrelevant.
With each episode of iZombie, Team Z attempts to unravel the bigger mystery of the zombie outbreak and to solve the murders and relationship issues that seem to be plaguing the city. In order to do this and this is the twist…Liv will eat the brain of a murder victim and this imbues her with the power to receive snippets of the victims past events leading up to death.
As iZombie prepares for Season 3 on April 4th, I thought it would be fun to take a look down memory lane at some of my favorite and most memorable episodes from the past two seasons.
Every superhero needs a good origin story and this is Liv Moores. In the first episode we see how Liv was before being turned, we learn about her relationship with Major, her drive for success and then we see the change and what it does to her. We learn a little bit about the theory behind how zombies came to be and we are introduced to the crew (both good and bad) that will be making an appearance throughout the series.
Liv And Let Clive
Detective Clive Babineux is a mysterious figure in iZombie and up to now, it hasn’t played out as to which side he is really on. In Liv and Let Clive the team splits up as Babineux appears to be mixed up in a murder of a former associate and Liv and Ravi team up to once and for all figure out just which side Clive is on.
Virtual Reality Bites
A computer hacker who is despised by everyone he has ever come in contact with is killed but the mystery is how did it happen, considering he never left his house. The doors, windows and house was sealed up tight and after Liv consumes the hackers brains she becomes agoraphobic as well as possessing the ability to hack into computer systems…which she does in order to help solve the crime. We also get to see more of the potential love interest of Liv and zombie Lowell Casey and Major has some well, major issues to overcome as we learn more about the missing kids and the much hated Blaine.
Dead Rat Live Rat Brown Rat White Rat
The episode starts off a lot like the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer with a group of teens running down what they thought was a person and then trying to cover it up. It actually turned out to be a person Liv had accidentally turned zombie. We learn so much more about the Max Rager conspiracy and just how deep the mystery goes and by the end of it, Peyton (Liv’s roommate) learns the truth about Liv and what has happened to her when Liv skewers a zombie in front of her.
This is the explosive finale to the first season and what an episode it is. The Meat Cute shop is destroyed, Liv’s brother is severely injured, Major goes on a massive zombie killing spree, is killed and then turned zombie by Liv and the experimental cure created by Ravi is administered to both Blaine and Major. Lots of information about Max Rager is learned, Blaine seems to be dealt with and yet the cliffhanger is excruciating and will have viewers jumping into season 2 immediately.
