I think it’s no real secret that in order for a movie to steer clear of the R-Rating it can only use the F-Word once, go over that limit and you’re PG-13 movies could get the kiss of death with an R-Rating. With this artificial limit in place the screen writers, actors and directors know that to maximize the words effectiveness it has to be used properly and with good timing. When done properly the dropping of the F-Word can be a comedic moment that causes some laugh out loud moments, can drive home an important plot point or ratchet up the tension of a scene. When not done properly it looks like a cheap tactic to elicit a response from the audience.
The crew over at Watch Mojo have taken the time to look at some of the best uses of the F-Word being dropped in a non R-Rated movie and there are some very good results on the list. For my money the best come from Billy Madison and Ron Burgandy.
