I like making things. It doesn’t matter if I’m building with Lego, using cardboard and hot glue (which I’ll inevitably burn myself with), foam core, or even yarn. My preferred method of creating though, happens to be knitting and I love the fact that I can turn a ball of yarn into something that I can wear or use or gift to someone else. It’s an activity that I enjoy because it’s as far removed from the computer as I can get and after spending 8 hours a day in front of one, makes it an ideal hobby for me. There are even studies that have shown that the rhythmic repetition of knitting can be meditative, improves motor function and can help alleviate symptoms of depression.
There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube that can help teach you to knit in case that’s something you would like to try out, or if you already know how to knit and read patterns, you can get started making some pretty neat, geeky items that you can wear, display, show off or even gift (unless, of course, you don’t want to) all of which I found for free on Ravelry.
