In the World Of Warcraft the Lich King is the lord of the scourge and he rules upon a Frozen Throne. He is a terrifying vision, an imposing figure who wears black armor adorned with skulls as he wields the runeblade Frostmourne. Too say the Lich King is an intimidating image would be an understatement and he could easily be confused with a vision of death.
Now imagine if you were to see him not just in a video game but in real life, well, now you can as Frank Ippolito and his crew have worked tirelessly to bring the Lich King to life.
In the video above, Norman Chan of Tested visits with Frank to discuss the amount of work that went into creating the armor for the Lich King and the techniques they used to do so. The Frostmourne blade is a thing of beauty and I would have never guessed that it was 3D printed.
The details on this costume and on the blade are incredible and beautiful to look at. It’s hard to believe that it all starts with some craft foam and ends up looking like armor that you could theoretically ride into battle and it all weighs in at under 40 pounds. The fact that they include smoke and light effects is the icing on the cake.
If you’re a cosplayer or aspire to create costumes then check out this video because the level of detail is insane and a huge inspiration on what can be achieved.
