Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released this week and from the reviews coming in, it looks to be a return to the horror survival roots of the series and a game that adds just enough new elements to make it feel fresh but stay true to the earlier games. The scares and horror are back and the game is once again scaring the pants off of gamers.
I remember spending hours playing Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 before losing interest in the series but with the release of 7, I am very interested in getting back into the Resident Evil franchise. In the many hours I spent in Racoon City there were definitely times where playing the game alone in the dark meant I was not getting a good sleep that night. Resident Evil was one of the first games I can remember playing that truly captured the feeling of horror, dread, tension and because of this was able to put you on edge in anticipation of the next scare.
In Resident Evil 2 the first encounter with the Licker on the ceiling was terrifying, or when the Zombie hands reach out to grab you the first time it makes me cringe just thinking about it. Then in Resident Evil when the Zombie Dogs attack it was enough to make you put the controller down and walk away for a good long while and in Resident Evil 3 when Nemesis first arrives that was terrifying.
I have plenty of fond, terrifying memories from the Resident Evil series and apparently I’m not alone as the crew of WatchMojo are counting down the top scares from Resident Evil and you can check all of the scares out above.
